The Peel Board of Education Research Screening Committee, in its approval, expressed a concern that since this study involved (both non-delinquent and delinquent) students from the general poulation, its findings may not be generalizable to delinquents. In other words, had this study found that students generally understand the standard Peel Regional Police cautions and waiver, it may have been dangerous to generalize such a conclusion to delinquents in Peel. This research revealed, however, that young persons generally have difficulty in comprehending the Peel Police cautions and waiver. One could therefore expect that delinquents may have even more difficulty.
